WTF is an ISA? Part One

ISAs are one of those things everyone says you should have… but what actually are they? What does ISA actually stand for? Is it just another savings account, or something different? And with several types (like Cash ISAs, Stocks and Shares ISAs, Lifetime ISAs and Junior ISAs) it’s easy to feel a bit confused about what they actually do and which one you might need. In this episode we break down what an ISA really is, why it’s such a useful tool for saving and investing, and how the tax advantages work. We’ll explain the different types available, how the annual allowance works, and how to choose the right kind of ISA depending on what you’re trying to achieve with your money.

ISAs can sound complicated at first, but once you understand the basics they’re actually pretty straightforward. They’re simply a way to save or invest your money without paying tax on the growth.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • What an ISA is and why you need one
  • How it is different from a savings account
  • The different types of ISAs
  • How many you can have
  • How to choose the best one for you
  • How to open one
  • …and more!
